before you ride.

The bike and surf rack are inspected and confirmed in proper working condition before each rental. Renter agrees to use the bike responsibly and return it in the same condition, normal wear excepted. The bike will be inspected again upon return.

This bike is provided to support surfers in accessing Rockaway's surf spots with their equipment. Renter confirms they are renting this bike for the purpose of surfing or supporting a surf session. Wax & Waves reserves the right to decline or cancel bookings that do not align with this purpose.

Rental begins and ends at the agreed time. Late returns may incur additional charges at the applicable rate.

A card will be held on file for the duration of the rental. In the event of loss, theft, or damage beyond normal wear, the renter authorizes Wax & Waves to charge the card on file for repair or replacement costs.

Renter must present a valid government-issued ID at pickup. ID will be held by Wax & Waves for the duration of the rental and returned upon return of the bike.

Renter must be 21 years or older. Wax & Waves does not rent to minors under any circumstances, including via a parent or guardian's booking.

Renter is responsible for locking the bike securely when unattended, using the lock provided. Renter is solely responsible for their own surfboard, equipment, and belongings during the rental period — Wax & Waves assumes no responsibility for boards or gear transported on the bike.

Renter acknowledges that cycling and surfing involve inherent risks, including but not limited to falls, collisions, road and beach hazards, weather conditions, and ocean conditions. Renter assumes all such risks and releases Wax & Waves from any liability for injury, loss, or damage arising from use of the bike.

Helmets are not provided. Adult cyclists are not required by law to wear a helmet, but it is recommended. Renter assumes all risk associated with riding without a helmet.

Renter confirms they are able to ride a bicycle safely and competently. This is a single-speed cruiser with hand brakes — no gear shifting required. Wax & Waves is not responsible for injury resulting from renter's inability to operate a standard bicycle.

Renter is solely responsible for any collision, accident, or incident involving other people, vehicles, animals, or property while using the bike. Wax & Waves is not liable for any injury, damage, or claim arising from such incidents.

Renter agrees to follow all applicable traffic laws, bike path rules, and local beach regulations while using the bike. Renter is solely responsible for any fines, tickets, or violations incurred during the rental.

Renter is responsible for the lock and combination/key during the rental period. Lost keys or failure to properly secure the bike resulting in loss or theft may incur additional charges.

If the bike becomes unusable due to a mechanical issue not caused by the renter, renter should contact Wax & Waves immediately. Wax & Waves will determine an appropriate resolution, including refund or rescheduling, at its discretion.

In the event of severe weather (high winds, lightning, storms), Wax & Waves reserves the right to cancel or decline a booking for safety reasons. If cancelled by Wax & Waves, renter will receive a full refund or the option to reschedule.

In the event the bike, rack, or lock is not returned, lost, or stolen during the rental period, renter authorizes Wax & Waves to charge the card on file for the full replacement value of the bike, rack, and lock.
